Work in progress. "Engaging Revelation in Coolidge Corner, Brookline, MA" due May 4, 2024
Waking in my apartment. In Revelation chapters 2 and 3, the holy one described in Rev. 1:13 as being "like a son of man" (from Daniel 7:13) orders John to write to the 7 angels of 7 churches. Brookline, MA, Mon., 2/5/24. 1/15s at f25 ISO100 200mm
A watch/jewelry shop near the church. "...the time is near" (Revelation 1:3). Coolidge Corner, Brookline, MA. Fri. 2/23/24. 1/30s at f20 ISO160 50mm
Certain spiritual moments stir fear nearing God. Instances: waking at Bethel from a dream with a stairway, or ladder, in it, "[Jacob] was afraid and said, ‘How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God; this is the gate of heaven’” (Gen. 28:17). In Rev. 1:17 John writes, “When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said, ‘Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.'" Brookline, MA. Sun. 1/28/24. 1/60s f5 ISO400 60mm
It tastes like the scroll, which the angel told John to eat (Rev. 10: 9-11). In this Engaging Revelation project, the bear symbolizes prophecy. Brookline, MA. 2.8.24. 1/5s at f22 ISO3200 90mm
A swing, symbol of oscillation, brings to mind 1 Kings 18:21 when prophet Elijah spoke before a miracle: “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” Some think Elijah is one of two witnesses in Revelation 11. In this light, the image relates to Revelation, which I find spiritually rewarding. Griggs Park, Brookline, MA. Sunday, 10/22/23. 1/125s f6.3 ISO100 18mm
The early 20c. Christmas music tree on the park bench twists and plays. Some scholars think the Christmas story in Revelation 12 fuses the parallel histories of heaven and earth. Griggs Park, Brookline, MA. Sun. 2/25/24. 1/50s at f18 ISO200 110mm
